Life After BigCo (LAB):

Unlocking talent for economic growth

The challenge

We noticed a growing challenge in Calgary: a wealth of sidelined senior-level talent, with no clear path to re-engagement. Their leadership, expertise, and industry knowledge remained untapped, presenting a missed opportunity for innovation and business growth, and a larger challenge for the local economy.

Our approach

Life After BigCo (LAB) was designed to reconnect professionals to the broader business ecosystem and drive contributions by facilitating engagement between senior talent, startups, and industry leaders. This forum provides inspiration and connection through curated experiences, including facilitated networking, events and panels at existing conferences. LAB is beginning to spark new ventures, build community and connect talent with purpose and opportunity.

Results & impact

  1. Senior-level talent reintegrated within business community
  2. High-caliber professionals connected with organizations seeking their expertise
  3. Senior talent recognized as catalysts for economic and community growth
  4. Over 1,000 members and growing
We created LAB because we felt the need in our community. It was based on a simple question…what happens if we can connect amazing, talented people with purpose, community and opportunity? It’s been an incredible journey and at our last event something special started to happen. The volunteers that were working the event used their own words to talk about their pride in being part of the initiative. We were humbled by their passion and learned what it meant to each of them personally. In that moment LAB became bigger than any of us. The idea had taken root. This SP&G innovation had become a movement.
