SP&G implemented a human-centered design to bring miners, technology experts and original equipment manufacturers together using a co-creative process.
Oil sands mine shovel operators lacked immediate performance feedback, which resulted in haul trucks not being properly loaded. This gap in information resulted in more than $100M in lost production, as well as increased wear and tear on the trucks.
SP&G implemented a human-centered design to bring miners, technology experts and original equipment manufacturers together using a co-creative process. Grounded in operator needs, we were able to rapidly prototype and test solutions to deliver real-time and actionable data to the shovel cab. This approach allowed us to demonstrate feasibility quickly to prove value to both executive leaders and field workers.
